Philadelphia Travel Guide for the NFDA 2016

Your time in Philadelphia may seem short, but we’re here to help you make the most of it. We’ve noted a few things to do and the best places to eat while you’re in Philly!

Things to Do:

img_5848Christ Church Burial Ground: The cemetery dates back to 1719 after the churchyard cemetery was full. Amongst other Declaration of Independence signees, the burial ground is home to our dear Benjamin Franklin and his wife, Deborah. As the most visited gravesite, visitors come to toss pennies on the grave as a symbol of good look and Franklin’s motto, “a penny saved is a penny earned.” Christ Church itself still rings the original eight bells which proclaimed independence from England in 1776 once a week.

Located across from the Independence Visitor Center and National Constitution Center, admission is a cheap $2 for adults ($15 for a group of up to 10 people). If you’re interested in a tour, $7 is the entrance fee, but make sure you’re available between 11 AM and 3:30 PM.

If you’re looking for a fright, go to a massive haunted house in a REAL PRISON. Behind the castle-like walls of Eastern State Penitentiary, is one of the top haunted attractions in the country. There are 6 main attractions inside, and it’s worth taking a look at their preview page before you go. Keep in mind, this attraction isn’t for the faint of heart!

For tickets, buy them ahead of time online!

207404_traub-images_traub_-daniel_cropNightscape: A Light and Sound Experience: If you’re not into the haunted house scene, shift to the Longwood Gardens. This is the second year the gardens have done an after-dark-only installation. The Philadelphia Klip Collective uses the gardens expansive backdrop for a, “spectacular display of light, sound, music, and projection creating an incredible multi-sensory experience.”

This is a ticketed event, and it’s available Wednesday through Saturday evening. Ideally, it’s best to go after 7 PM.
