Morales Funeral Home is a trusted preneed partner with Security National Life. Today, we’d like to take a moment to highlight their services and talk about how Security National Life has changed their preneed business. Below is a brief interview with the funeral home’s Operations Manager, Joe L. Morales:
When was Morales Funeral Home founded?
Felix H. Morales Funeral Home was founded in 1931 by my great-grandparents, Felix and Angela Morales. They opened the first Hispanic owned funeral home during The Great Depression. In 1950, my great-grandparents also founded the first Spanish language radio station within Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast.
Are you a family-owned funeral home?
We have been family owned and operated since 1931. I am the fourth generation to work here for the family business.
What are some traditions of Morales Funeral Home?
I would say our biggest tradition is being here for our families and our community. We want our families to know we understand their grief and are here to guide them every step of the way. One of our biggest expression of love for our community is the annual Back to School Supply Give Away sponsored by our foundation. The event is held in the parking lot of the funeral home where our staff, board members and volunteers hand out over 2,000 complete school kits free of charge to the children in our community. The funeral home also hosts the foundations signature event, Death by Chocolate. This unique event was created in 2014 to benefit a local nonprofit each year. Death by Chocolate has raised an estimate total of $75k over the 5 years.
Why do customers choose Morales Funeral Home over your other competitors?
In my opinion, I feel that the families choose our services because of the heritage of our funeral home and our caring staff. We care for the community and we see everyone as family; We make sure our families are comfortable with us and can count on us to meet every demand and concern. We are centrally located in Houston so our location plays a big part for those families who are spread out over the city.
How has using Security National Life as your preneed partner changed your business?
Security National has given our families who preplan what we are able to provide our at need families which is affordability. Comparing a SNL competitor, we were able to save our families an average of 25% on premiums paid. In addition, our preneed business has doubled and we have achieved a 1:1 ratio.
What would you say to a funeral home considering Security National Life as a preneed partner?
I would say, “GO FOR IT.” When I was considering other insurance providers, my main concern was growth and the security of our future business. I also wanted to keep our licensed agents satisfied. I asked several funeral home managers around Texas and Security National came up eight times out of ten. I first met Wayne back in 2013 when I started here and we kept in touch over the years. After exploring my options, I decided to give Wayne a call and said, “show me the numbers and what you can do for our funeral home.” The very next day he provided me with everything I had asked and answered all my questions. Wayne showed and guided us how to expand first hand, he didn’t just send us an email instructions. I appreciate how he showed up every day to help get everything together. That was a year and a half ago and our families are happy, our future business is growing, and our agents are breaking records. I couldn’t be any happier with our decision.
