Compassion.
Sympathetic pity.
Concern for the misfortune of others.
Our jobs as funeral insurance consultants require exercising a great deal of each of these. We must be good listeners. In aftercare situations we deal day-in and day-out with the bereaved. Often the survivors need to talk on and on about their loved one they lost. We must have the patience and sincerity to truly listen from the heart and understand.
We are trained in preneed to put our schedules together and set our appointments in advance so that we maximize every minute of every day. But we must realize that is not the nature of our business. Our work cannot be performed well if it is rushed. Do not be in a hurry to make a sale and fail to listen. People who have experienced loss need to talk and heal. As a funeral insurance consultant, it’s your duty to help them through it. This is the key.
Take the time to listen and help them through the grieving process.
If you truly show compassion and do your best job,
the sale will surely come and a grieving person will be helped.
